Cassie Xue
Cassie Xue is a Chinese-born writer, playwright, dramaturg, theatre critic, and researcher currently based in the United Kingdom. She is also a bilingual practitioner whose work is shaped by her lived experience as an autistic individual and a survivor of domestic violence—identities that are deeply intertwined with her creative and critical practice.
Her work sits at the intersection of theatre-making, criticism, and academic research. She is particularly interested in trauma-informed dramaturgy, intercultural adaptation, feminist theatre, contemporary performance, and the relationship between creative practice and scholarship.
As both a practitioner and researcher, Cassie works across playwriting, dramaturgy, theatre criticism, adaptation, translation, and performance. Her creative work frequently explores women’s narratives, memory, trauma, neurodiversity, and social structures through naturalist and realist forms.
Cassie is currently undertaking doctoral research in Theatre Studies at the University of Warwick. She previously studied at the Shakespeare Institute, the University of Birmingham, the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, and the University of Queensland.
Her writing, criticism, and research are informed by a commitment to intercultural dialogue, critical inquiry, and the belief that theatre remains one of the most powerful ways of telling human stories.
